Cold Brew Coffee

There’s Something Magnificent Brewing at The French Press Coffee Roasters

The French Press Coffee Roasters is constantly on looking for innovative brewing methods and their applications. As such we employ two different cold brewing methods at the Roastery. One way we brew is by steeping coffee in cold water for twenty four hours, then filtering out the grinds until we have a clean , flavorful, low acid, delicious brew. This coffee is primarily used for our iced coffee at the cafe. We blend it with ice, cream and sugar to get a delicious creamy, milk chocolate iced coffee that has been the talk of the town.

The other method we use is through slow drip perculation. The process uses ice cold water instead of hot, minimizing the acidity and bitterness of the coffee brought out by hot water. You might ask, how does cold water brew coffee?  The answer is slowly and over time through a slow drip process. Using state of the art laboratory quality glassware, the iced water is dripped through the coffee grounds for twenty four hours while the liquid percolates through the coffee, and the end result is a powerfully flavored and caffeinated, triple strength cold brew. The time factor replaces the heating element in the brewing process and produces a strong, flavorful and clean low acid coffee extract.  This liquid concentrate can be mixed with hot water to create standard brewed coffee, or with milk and sugar for a refreshing iced coffee.  Eight ounces will yield 24-30 oz of hot coffee or 50-60 oz of iced coffee

The French Press has taken this heavenly brew and bottled. All one has to do is add it to hot water and voila, you’ve got yourself a brewed coffee, using no fancy machinery at all. On Shabbos, this can be done by adding the coffee sense to a kli shlishi (or even a kli sheini according to some), providing the most discerning coffee fanatic with a true taste of mayain olam habah on Shabbos.  Now, you no longer have to compromise on the quality of your morning coffee every Shabbos. As confirmed by satisfied customers, this do it yourself brewed coffee tastes remarkably like the coffee served at French Press! It’s good news for those with acid sensitivities, as the cold water used in the brewing process removes the acidic compounds, so that now they can have their brewed coffee and drink it too!

The liquid heaven is available in 8 oz bottles for $5.00. It comes in all the varieties and origins served in the store, including light roast, medium roast, dark roast, decaf and organic.

This Shabbos treat yourself to the bottled excellence of French Press brewed coffee, right in the comfort of your own kitchen.
